Woman arrested on charge of daughter\'s murder

Thiruvananthapuram: The Rural police have arrested a 33-year-old woman in connection with the murder of her 13-year-old daughter, Jazna.

Nedumangadu Circle Inspector A. Pramod Kumar identified the suspect as Rejina Begum. He said the accused and her lover, Sreekuttan alias Harshakumar alias Tajuddin, had killed Jazna to hide their extra marital relationship from Rejinas husband who is working in the Gulf.

Mr. Pramod said Sreekuttan committed suicide by consuming a lethal pesticide on March 2 after he learned the police were investigating him in connection with Jaznas death.

The case came to light on February 28 when Rejina roused her neighbours and told them that her daughter had committed suicide by hanging. The neighbours and later the police found Jaznas lifeless body lying on the bed. Rejina impressed upon her neighbours that she had cut Jazna down when she found her hanging by the neck from a shawl tied to an elevated window bar.
