Corporation seeks more employees

Thiruvananthapuram: The City Corporation Council has appealed to the government to sanction additional posts in all categories to handle the increased workload following the proposed merger of five suburban panchayats with the capital city.

Moving an official resolution at a meeting of the council here on Friday, Mayor C.Jayan Babu said the current staff strength was insufficient to handle the added burden. The resolution proposed more than 200 additional posts in the supervisory, administrative and technical categories, as well as 1,300 in the contingency workforce.

The Mayor said the new post of a Public Relations Officer had become imperative in the light of the need to provide inputs for the media. The resolution also proposed an IT Officer to head the computer division of the civic body. The resolution was adopted unanimously.
