Miss Kerala loves to work for social causes

KOCHI: Indu Thampy, the winner of Miss Kerala 2010 contest, wants to do a lot to elevate the deprived sections of society in general and women in particular. Talking to The Hindu here, she said she would consider suitable projects as and when the opportunity arises.

I see beggars on the streets and old women without a shelter. I would be glad to take up projects for their welfare, she said.

The day after winning the contest, it was all excitement far beyond her expectations. The contest went past midnight and she could get only a few hours to take rest. The contest was fair enough to remove all her apprehensions. There are a lot of misconceptions about beauty contests which have been proved wrong, she said. In fact, the court had to intervene last year to ensure decency and decorum after certain complaints came to the fore.

Acknowledging that endorsements were part of the entire show, she said she would chalk out plans for doing something worthwhile for the betterment of the society. Will she be aspiring for the Miss India crown? That is a different contest; one has to go to the contest at the South India level prior to the national contest, she observed.
