Nedumbassery: Security was tightened at the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) after its authorities were alerted to a message, received at the Chennai airport, that a bomb has been planted in an aircraft flying in to Kochi from Chennai on Friday evening.
Airport director A.C.K. Nair said that details of the aircraft or the time of its arrival here were not mentioned in the message. �However, we cannot afford to take chances. A red alert has been issued and the security apparatus, strengthened, he said.
According to him, the passengers screening system has been intensified. All the baggage and cargo consignments will be screened thoroughly. It has also been decided to keep a close watch on the employees entering the operational areas. They have been asked to report to the terminal manager any unattended baggage on the airport premises.
