Pookkalam contest on August 19

KOCHI: The fourth edition of The Hindu-Metroplus pookkalam (floral pattern) contest will be held in Kochi on August 19.

Only 50 teams will be allowed for the competition on a first-come-first-served basis.

Each team should have five members, of whom at least three should be women.

All the members should be above 15 years of age. Each institution can send a maximum of three teams.

The pookkalam should be prepared in two and a half hours, including the time for drawing the outline and flower arrangement.

The contest will be held between 9 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. at Gold Souk, Vytilla, Kochi. The refundable registration fee is Rs. 100 per team.

The first three winners will receive cash prizes of Rs. 20,000, Rs.12,500 and Rs.7,500 respectively.

The fourth, fifth and sixth prize winners will get an Olympus camera each.

Teams from the seventh to the 16th place will receive consolation prizes of Rs.1,500 per team.
