KOCHI: The Kochi campus of the Indian Maritime University (IMU) has received great response from students indicated by the nearly five-fold increase over a year in student strength as the new academic programmes are set to be launched here on Monday.
Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister T. K. M. Nair inaugurated the new academic programmes of the IMU, Kochi Campus, on Sunday.
The Vice-Chancellor of IMU P. Vijayan, who came in for special praise from Mr. Nair for the speed with which the Kochi programmes were launched, told The Hindu that he was happy with the great response to the programmes here.
He said that the student strength had jumped from a mere 40 to 190 for the new courses. If the trend continued, the student strength could go up to nearly a 1,000 next year, said Dr. Vijayan.
He also said that from the next academic year IMU Kochi campus would be offering ML is Maritime Law. The law studies centre will be helped by the International Maritime Law Institute, Malta, which is a United Nations body.
